The roof restoration process

1. Initial roof inspection & report

A member of our expert roofing team will first discuss with you any problems you have noticed or concerns you have about your roof. They will then undertake a thorough inspection of your roof to determine any faults or issues, or any maintenance required. We look for:

  • sources of any leaks
  • cracked, broken, displaced or missing tiles
  • cracks or damage in the bedding mortar that fixes the ridge tiles in place (the ridge tiles are the triangular-shaped tiles that cover the ridges where two sloped roof surfaces meet)
  • cracked or damaged pointing material (pointing is the material that seals the edges of the ridge tiles)
  • rust or damage to the metal valleys (valleys channel rainwater into your gutters)
  • leaves or debris in the valleys
  • rust or damage to flashings or missing sections of flashing (flashings are the metal or rubber barriers around structures like chimneys, flues, skylights and vents)
  • gable timbers or joists that are cracked, splitting or collapsing
  • blocked gutters or downpipes
  • a build-up of mould anywhere on or in your roof
  • a build-up of lichen and moss on your tiles
  • deterioration to any silicone seals
  • general deterioration, fading or discoloration of the tile surfaces

2. Re-bedding & re-pointing

  • We remove the ridge tiles and clear away all the old mortar (not just the bits you can see!). The roof is then swept and thoroughly cleaned using a high-powered blower to remove all mud and dirt, ready for the tiles to be fully re-bedded. Following the re-bedding stage, the roof is cleaned again in preparation for pointing to ensure a smooth and neat finish. After the pointing stage, the roof is given a final sweep and clean with the blower, and the gutters are cleaned.

3. Repair & replace

  • We replace cracked, broken or missing tiles
  • We replace all metal valleys and damaged flashings
  • We replace damaged timbers
  • We clear blocked gutters and downpipes

4. Pre-paint cleaning

  • If you are having your roof re-painted, it will be pressure-washed after the re-bedding and re-pointing process to remove any dust and ensure a beautiful finish.

5. Sealant

  • A quality acrylic primer is applied, which fills any tiny imperfections in the tiles to provide a uniform surface. The primer also acts as a powerful adherent for the paint that follows.

6. Painting

  • Two coats of a high-quality paint product are applied using specialised spraying equipment for a beautifully even finish. The paint used is designed to bind strongly to roof tiles and to provide a superior and long-lasting surface. It offers excellent durability, colour retention and weather proofing. So not only does it enhance the look of your roof and your home, it provides a powerful barrier against the elements to extend the life of your roof.

7. Final clean & inspection

  • We carry out a final clean of your roof and gutters, and clean up after ourselves, removing any debris and leaving everything as we found it – except that your roof now looks like new! We carry out a final inspection and ensure that you are as thrilled with the outcome as we know you will be!
